Welcome to Charlbury Corner House & Memorial Hall

Located in the heart of Charlbury only three minutes walk from the main car park. The Corner House is the ideal venue for meetings and group activities. A distinctive, historic building that was gifted to the town for recreational and educational purposes, it is home to the Cornerstone, The Garden Cafe and Charlbury Community Bookshop. The Memorial Hall, opened in 1956 in honour of those who served and those who lost their lives in two World Wars, is used on a daily basis for all manner of activities and events.

Occupying a key position in the town centre, The Corner House is Grade II listed. It dates in part from the 17th Century or even earlier, with the Market Street facade added probably in the 1720s. In 1938, The Corner House was bought by Mr and Mrs C H Morris, then living at Lee Place, who in an act of great generosity gave it to the town at the end of the Second World War. Their intention to build a hall in what was then The Corner House garden as a memorial to Charlburians lost in the World Wars was realised about ten years later, bringing together the complex of buildings that we see today.
