Charlbury Art Society-Flowers in Art

Chadlington Flower Farmer Matthew Franklin Maiden
After the excitement of the recent Charlbury Festival join the Charlbury Art Society for its first talk of the season by Matthew, The Charlbury Gardener as he explores ‘Flowers in Art’ He will be dipping into what flowers have meant over the ages, from the Dutch still lives of the 17th Century through to the secret messages of the Victorians escaping the strictures of social etiquette.
Beginners Potter's Wheel Class
Friday, September 13| 6.30pm, Memorial Hall | Tickets £45
Adults only | 6 people maximum [one space already booked!] 2 attendees per wheel (perhaps bring a friend!)
There are no expectations, have fun and be creative!
What you’ll get:
- Demonstration of how to prepare clay
- Demonstration of how to make a bowl and remove a bowl on a wheel
- Basic throwing techniques
- Then time to try it yourself! (With support from professional potter)
Two best pots of your choice will be fired (with an additional charge of £5 per item if you would like white glaze to be added)
What to bring: An apron (or wear old clothes)
Items of Jane’s work will be available to purchase on the night!

Charlbury Art Society-Scandal in Oxfordshire High Society
Wednesday, October 3 | 7.15pm for 7.30pm, Memorial Hall
Scandal in Oxfordshire High Society, with Julie Ann Godson.
Tales of the Oxfordshire upper classes, from the Tudor period to the modern age. Hear how they have contrived to behave badly: secret love affairs, blackmail, poisoning, extortion and even murder.
Julie Ann studied modern history at Oxford and is a well respected and entertaining local historian, giving regular talks on her work.
Join us shortly before the talk starts at the new earlier time of 7.30
Guests (£3 on the door) and new members (£10 for the season) very welcome
Charlbury Art Society-Art of Jaipur
Wednesday, October 9 | 7.30pm, Memorial Hall
Marea Brown will share her passion for Indian block printing, talk about its history and show us how it is done and let us try for ourselves.
All welcome, non members £5 on the door
Marea is originally from Yorkshire but now happily settled in West Oxfordshire. She started her small business, Art of Jaipur, when she found herself with an empty nest and had a bit more time to be creative. She is passionate about crafting and making beautiful things for the home and garden and runs workshops in lovely rural venues in Oxfordshire
Garden Society-Plant Swap
Saturday 19th October, 10am-12pm, Memorial Hall
The Garden Society Plant Swap in the spring was a huge success and will be returning this autumn!
This is an opportunity to bring any spare plants or seeds you may have or take away something for your own garden. Time to start thinking about any plants you may wish to divide or spare plants you might wish to share!
Plants are free (and no obligation to drop off any plants before taking something away) butdonations are welcomedto support our local greening projects.
If you have plants to donate, and prefer to bring them in advance, please leave them behind the lowered hedge in the Corner House garden from evening of Friday 18th October.
Come early to avoid disappointment, as plants usually find new homes very quickly!

The Charlbury Society-Ditchley & Churchill
Monday, November 11 | 7.30pm, Memorial Hall
Mike Montagu, a retired career soldier, now resident in Charlbury, was previously bursar at Ditchley Park before his role now as their host and historian. In his talk he will focus on Churchill’s use of Ditchley as an alternative retreat to Chequers between late 1940 and autumn 1942 .
Join us shortly before the talk starts at 7.30. Guests very welcome, £3 on the door, or £10 for season’s membership
Charlbury Art Society - Creativity with Children
Wednesday, November 13 | 7.30pm, Memorial Hall
Isabel Knowland and Tony Lloyd will share some of their experiences at primary schools in and around Oxford. This will be followed by a practical session making some of the things that the children created.

Charlbury Green Hub - Bring & Take
Saturdayday, November 16 | 9.30am-12pm, Memorial Hall
BRING items from between 9.30 and 10.15am and TAKEanything you want free of charge from between 10am and 12 noon. You don’t have to bring something in order to take something, so please just pop-in to take away anything you like.
BRING spare but usable items you no longer want: household items, clothes, children’s toys, DVDs, books, bikes, curtains, garden tools, flower & vegetable seeds, etc, etc. PLEASE DON’T BRING PAINT, TILES, KNIVES, OR CHILD CAR SEATS.
You can also bring along old spectacles, unwanted bras, used printer ink cartridges, dead batteries, broken lightbulbs, and used water filter cartridges – please put them in the boxes by the door.
Items are given and taken FREE so please respect this community spirit by not taking things for resale or scrap value. Leftovers are given to charities or Freecycled.
Photos might be taken during the event, so if you don’t want to be photographed then please contact Janet or Christine.
