Charlbury Garden Society Spring Show

Saturday 6th April 11.30am-4.30pm, Memorial Hall

This year Charlbury Garden Society are organising the Spring Show again in conjunction with the Charlbury Art Society Spring Exhibition. Shows are open to everyone!

The Charlbury Garden Society Spring Show is always a delight. The scent of daffodils and the sight of beautiful works of art from the Arts Society makes for an uplifting day.

This year they have tried to make it easier for you to exhibit your spring flowers. Exhibitors will not have to fill in entry forms in advance. Instead, the Show Team will be there to help you! Just bring a bunch of something down in a container between 9am and 10.30am on the day and we will help you place it!

They are also introducing The People’s Choice this year. Members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite exhibit – it may well be different from the judge’s choices! The winner will be awarded the Ian Tolputt Cup.

There will also be a Drawing Corner. Members of the Arts Society will be on hand to help young and old sketch a spring flower.

And they will kick start the Great Potato Challenge. Charlbury Garden Society have purchased some potato sacks and seed potatoes and will be giving these away with full instructions to see how many potatoes can be grown in a single sack. They will have a weigh-in later in the year and a small edible prize will be awarded. This ‘competition’ is open to children and young people under 18.

Do please come and support them – it will be a wonderful day, topped up with homemade cakes, teas and coffees and a raffle! Show schedules showing exact timings and exhibition rules can be downloaded from the Charlbury Garden Society website

Slow Stitching - a four part course with Tabitha Grove
Tuesday 16th, 23rd, 30th April and 7th May. 7pm to 9.30pm, Charlbury Art Room, Corner House

Four evening sessions of meditative hand stitching to make the most beautiful, kimono-inspired, short robe. A deeply calming course with not a machine stitch in sight. Artist and professional costumier Tabitha Grove will take those of all abilities through a few very simple but highly effective stitches and techniques in a calm, friendly atmosphere.

At the end of the course you’ll take home a classic garment made from the finest John Hanna linen and be so proud to wrap yourself up in it.
A course which is just as much about taking time out for yourself as it is about learning to make something beautiful to treasure forever.

CRAG'S Charlbury Gala Concert

Sunday 12th May 6.00pm, Memorial Hall

CRAG is delighted to invite you to a special gala concert on Sunday 12th May. Without a doubt one of the finest soloists of her generation, the violinist Viktoria Mullova will perform a concert for CRAG along with her close family, (husband, Matthew Barley – cello, son, Misha Mullov’Abbado – bass, and daughter-in-law, Bridget O’Donnell – violin) all of whom are brilliant internationally-recognised performers.

Viktoria Mullova studied at the Central Music School of Moscow and the Moscow Conservatoire. Her extraordinary talent captured international attention when she won first prize at the 1980 Sibelius Competition in Helsinki and the Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1982 which was followed, in 1983, by her dramatic and much publicised defection to the West. She has since appeared with most of the world’s greatest orchestras and conductors and at the major international festivals.

The early evening concert will be held at the Memorial Hall and will last approximately 90 minutes after which you’re invited to a ‘Prosecco and canapé reception’ in the Corner House garden. Limited tickets (including the reception) are priced at £30 (£12 for under 16s).

Tickets available on their website
