Charlbury Street Fair Volunteer Information Afternoon

Charlbury Street Fair Volunteer Afternoon – come and find out more. Street Fair is run entirely by volunteers and we’re always looking for people to join in any capacity, even if that means helping out for a couple of hours on the day. Regardless of your skill set, we’d love to hear from you. Do come along if you’re interested in volunteering for this popular annual event.

Painting and Sketching in the Galapagos

Wednesday 14th February, 7.30pm, Memorial Hall

An illustrated talk by David Pollock – A Charlbury Art Society Talk

Why draw? Why make sketchbooks? And why go to the Galapagos to do it?

David will describe his visit to the “Enchanted Isles”, the history of the islands; their unique landscape; the extraordinary species found there; the need to protect them; and his reasons for making a record in ink and watercolour of wildlife, place and people there.

Illustrations will include images from his “Galapagos Sketchbook”, recently published by Pallas Athene in aid of the Galapagos Conservation Trust.

All welcome, non-members £5

RBL Coffee Morning

RBL are holding a coffee Morning in Charlbury war memorial hall from 9.45am to 11.45am. Refreshments, home made cakes and raffle. All proceeds to Charlbury branch funds.

Slow Stitching Course - With Tabitha Grove

Five evening sessions of meditative  hand stitching to make the most beautiful, kimono-inspired, short robe. This is a very calming course with not a machine in sight. And you’ll finish with a classic garment  made from the finest linen, that you will be so proud to wrap yourself up in.

CRAG Sunday Tea Concert: Fretwork

Sunday 3rd March, 3pm Memorial Hall

The return of the internationally renowned viol ensemble Fretwork.

The music lasts approximately one hour and is always followed by complimentary tea and CRAG’s legendary homemade cake.

Tickets are £15 (£5.00 for under 15s) and can be bought in advance now from our website, or from Cotswold Frames in Charlbury from approximately two weeks before each performance. Limited tickets will also be available at the door.


Charlbury Arts Society - Reflections of Light

Wednesday 13th March, 7pm Memorial Hall

Susie Lawson will preview the work by artists and makers from Vigour and Skills who will be exhibiting at Gothic House, Charlbury 20 March – 24 April 2024

Opening to mark the Spring Equinox, Reflection on Light brings together twelve female artists whose practice responds to light. 

As the seasons influence our mood and social interactions, the change of light through the year plays its part on all. This group exhibition will explore individual stories behind the artist’s own relationship with light. 

Alongside the works on the walls, the exhibition brings together makers from Vigour and Skills community.

Charlbury Arts Society - Reflections of Light

This year the theme is ‘Old & Young’ as we celebrate the experience of the older people in the community and invest in our younger people. Find out about two new youth initiatives, what the Town Council has been up to and don’t forget the now customary cheese and wine!

Talks from guest speakers, updates from Town Council, Locally sourced refreshments and Honoured Citizen Awards.

Charlbury Garden Society - Potty Time

Thursday 21st March 7.30pm, Memorial Hall

The Garden Society is privileged to welcome Hariett Rycroft. After volunteering at Hidcote Manor Gardens, Harriet worked in the garden at Whichford Pottery for nearly fourteen years, planning, planting and maintaining large displays of planted pots all year round.

Harriet will combine slides with a practical demonstration of 25 to 30 minutes on container gardening through the year.
Questions will be welcome during the practical demonstration.

Bring OR Take

Saturday 23rd March 9.30am, Memorial Hall

BRING items from between 9.30 and 10.30am and TAKEanything you want free of charge from between 10am and 12 noon. You don’t have to bring something in order to take something, so please just pop-in to take away anything you like.

BRING spare but usable items you no longer want: household items, clothes, children’s toys, DVDs, books, bikes, curtains, garden tools, flower & vegetable seeds, etc, etc. PLEASE DON’T BRING PAINT OR TILES.

Plug-in electrical items have to have been PAT-tested by us in advance, so bring them to 3 Crawborough Villas the Saturday before between 11-12 ONLY.  WE WILL NOT ACCEPT PLUG-IN ELECTRICAL ITEMS ON THE DAY OF THE BRING OR TAKE.

Bring a photo of large items to put on the notice board rather than bring them along on the day.

You can also bring along old spectacles, unwanted bras, used printer ink cartridges, dead batteries, broken lightbulbs, and used water filter cartridges – please put them in the boxes by the door.

Items are given and taken FREE so please respect this community spirit by not taking things for resale or scrap value. Leftovers are given to charities or Freecycled.

Volunteers are vital for this event – if you would like to help sort things out as they are brought in and put onto tables, and more importantly help sort stuff out at the end, and even drive to charity shop in Witney, then please contact Christine Elliott 01608 811057.

Street Fair Quiz

Saturday 23rd March 7.30pm, Memorial Hall

Street Fair’s annual general knowledge quiz returns on Saturday 23rd March. Come and test your knowledge whilst raising money for two important community buildings – the Corner House and Memorial Hall. 

Tickets are £15 per person including a meal – teams of up to six people. 

Event starts at 7:30 (doors open from 7pm).

Spaces are limited – to book please email.
